We have tried Ippudo Ramen in Tokyo and loved it. So on this trip to New York City, we headed over to Ippudo NY without hesitation.
We went the one at the East Village location and made sure to arrive early so that there was no wait. The decor was really modern and hip for a ramen place. The bowls on the wall were a nice touch.
We tried the Shiromaru Hakata Classic (白丸元味), original Tonkotsu broth and the Akamaru Modern (赤丸新味), Tonkotsu miso broth with garlic oil. Both are excellent! Very flavorful soup. And the soft boiled eggs are a must.
A friend ordered the Karaka-men, which is their spicy ramen with garlic oil.
Great ramen on a cold winter day in NYC. But we must say, it’s the most expensive bowl of ramen we’ve ever had at US$20 per bowl after tax and tips.
