Rubber Duck visiting Los Angeles

I was excited to find out that the big floating Rubber Duck, created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman was coming to LA! “The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them.” – Florentijn Hofman.

On the (supposedly) last day of the duck’s stay in LA, we went to see it at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedros. However, after lots of time wasted in traffic, parking, and on a trolley that moved at slower-than-walking speed, we eventually arrived at the entrance, only to be informed that they have decided to stop selling tickets 2 hours before the event ended. Not happy!! Good thing that a nice lady actually handed me 2 tickets that she didn’t need, so 2 parents in the group were able take the kid + baby in to see the big duck ๐Ÿ™‚

Brian and I went to take a photo with the Baby Duck instead. She was not even in water! Haha!

A few days after the event ended, we were told that they decided to extend the duck’s stay. We already had plan to go to LA to see a concert one night, so we figured we would stop by and try to see the Rubber Duck again. A few hours before we were heading out, Brian saw on the news that the duck got deflated that morning due to high wind. Oh no!!! I guess it was not meant to be…

Here’s a picture to show how small the Baby Duck is compared to Mama Duck! 10 feet vs 61 feet. Sorry we missed you Mama Duck!!  (Image: Port of LA Facebook page)
