Here’s the step-by-step guide to making French Onion Soup: First, cook the onions with butter.
Cook and stir onions until they are golden brown, add water and scrap the crust. 
Repeat the stirring and deglazing for 2 more times until onions are caramelized.
Continue to cook in beef broth for 3 hours.
Prepare baguette slices and Gruyere cheese.
Broil for a few minutes till cheese is melted.
